Weekly Professional Golf Catchup - February 18th, 2025

PGA Tour
Ludvig Aberg returns to Torrey weeks after falling ill there, and wins his 2nd PGA Tour event!

It looked like nobodywas going to catch Maverick McNealy on Sunday at Torrey Pines as he was NINE under through the first 13 holes after starting the day five shots back of the lead. He’d eventually cool off and make ab ogey on the 14th hole and pars the rest of the way in, leaving the door open for Ludvig Åberg.

Ludvig started the final round two shots back of the lead and McNealy’s cooling off opened the door for his second PGA Tour victory. He’d birdie 4 of his final 6 holes including the 18th to win by one stroke over McNealy.

He joins Sepp Straka, Rory McIlroy, and Thomas Detry as European winners on the PGA Tour in 2025.

Congratulations to Ludvig Aberg!

This week on the PGA Tour:

The tour heads to Mexico for the Mexico Open this week where defending champion and smooth swinger Jake Knapp will look to defend his title. 17 year old Blades Brown is also in the field this week on a sponsors exemption.

Here’s the recap for last year’s Mexico Open:

LIV Golf
Adelaide starts off with a bang and ends with a comeback from Joaquin Niemann!

Just two groups into LIV Golf’s signature event down under, Patrick Reed made an ace at The Watering Hole, setting the tone for what would be a good weekend of golf in Adelaide.

Abe Ancer, Carlos Ortiz, and Sam Horsfield were the three frontrunners for the first 36 holes of the tournament. Entering the final round Joaquin Niemann found himself three shots back of the lead shared by all three.

The conditions were windy all weekend which led to the elite ball strikers finding their way to the top of the leaderboard and that didn’t change Sunday as Niemann shot a bogey free -7 that would have him claiming the title by three shots over Ortiz and Ancer.

Ancer led the way for a lot of the final round but struggled late, making bogeys on his final two holes.

Congratulations to Joaquin Niemann!

This week on LIV Golf:

LIV Golf is off for two weeks before returning at Hong Kong Golf Club for the second year where Abe Ancer won in a playoff over Paul Casey and Cam Smith.
