Rory defends in Dubai!

Rory McIlroy needed to go low in the second round to give himself a chance heading into the final round in Dubai as he was quite a ways back from Cameron Young.

He did just that, posting a bogey free 63, four shots better than the second best round in the field, a 67 by Joaquin Niemann. He was still two shots back heading into Sunday, but both Cameron Young and Adrian Meronk didn’t have their best, and Rory’s 70 was enough to seal the deal. This is the fourth time he’s won the Dubai Classic. His first in 2009, then again in 2015, now 2023 and 2024.

What’s next on the DP World Tour?

The International Swing continues on the DP World Tour as they head to the UAE for the Ras Al Khaimah Championship at Al Hamra GC. DP World Tour member Daniel Gavins from England looks to defend his title here! The field contains some notable names such as Rasmus Hojgaard, Thirston Lawrence, Laurie Canter, and more!

LIV Golf
More Silence from LIV Golf

Though this week we did learn that Kalle Samooja will be joining Martin Kaymer’s Cleeks GC, that is, somehow, the only news we’ve heard from LIV Golf. Just 11 days until the launch of the 2024 season and there’s still no formal announcement of Jon Rahm’s new team, still two roster spots to be filled (one on Cleeks GC and one on Rahm’s team), and still two venues to be named. If credibility in elite professional golf is what they seek, these details need to be sorted out in the very near future.

They need (starting immediately) use these next two weeks to build momentum heading into the 2024 season, if they are to expand at the rate they’re hoping for.

Amateur Nick Dunlap wins The Amex! First in 32 years!

US Amateur Champion Nick Dunlap wins The American Express! Nick is a sophomore at Alabama and just 20 years old and he took down the 3rd PGA Tour event of the season in exciting fashion! It was a bumpy ride as he saw himself enter the final round with a three shot lead over Sam Burns after Nick shot an incredible 60 in the third round.

He’s the first amateur to win a PGA Tour event since Phil Mickelson won the Northern Telecom Open in January of 1991.

Nick was also slated to play this week’s Farmers Insurance Open, but has opted to take the week off and head home to spend some time with his family. He’s got a big decision to make as this win will grant him access to all of this year’s signature events, but reports have suggested he doesn’t want to leave his college team in the middle of the season.

Regardless of his decision, he’s got a bright future ahead of him!

What’s next on the PGA Tour?

This week’s tour event is The Farmers Insurance Open where Max Homa looks to defend his 2023 title at Torrey Pines. Similar to last year, this event will be played Wednesday through Saturday to avoid conflicting with the NFL games on Sunday. This event brings us quite a strong field for not being one of the tour’s signature events. This week we’ll see Xander, Cantlay, Homa, Morikawa, Keegan Bradley, Jason Day, Sahith Theegala, Tony Finau, and more!

New Tiger Woods Brand?

This week it was reported that TaylorMade has registered trademarks for a line of clothing called “Sunday Red”. All signs pointing towards this being the new line for Tiger Woods. His contract with Nike was up at the end of 2023, and they formally announced the end of the partnership.
