PGA Tour
At the Mexico Open, Brian Campbell finds the winners circle for the first time, after a 7 year fight to regain PGA Tour status!

The long hitting PGA Tour rookie out of South Africa, Aldrich Potgieter, looked like he was going to run away with the Mexico Open this week. He led by four strokes over Brian Campbell and Stephan Jaeger after two rounds at Vidanta Vallarta, a course that typically favors the bomb and gouge playstyle.

However through 54 holes his lead was reduced to just one shot over Brian Campbell.

While the final round contained a lot of back and forth, it felt like nobody was taking charge and going out to win, just that they were waiting for everybody else to lose.

However matching birdies on the 72nd hole from both Campbell and Potgieter meant that the two would be headed to extra holes. Potgieter the favorite as the current leader in driving distance on the PGA Tour, the same category where Campbell ranks 182nd of 182.

They’d both make steady pars the first time through the 540 yard par 5, but some magic happened on the second go around. Campbell hit a swipey fade that flew into the out of bounds trees just over 225 yards from the tee and somehow kicked back into the right rough. Though still 100 yards short of Potgieter, Campbell was still alive. A layup and then absolute dart gave him just a few feet for birdie. A putt he’d make for the win as Potgieter failed to get up and down from the greenside bunker.

Congratulations to Brian Campbell!

This week the PGA Tour returns to PGA National for the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches. Formerly known as the Honda Classic, this event was won by Austin Eckroat last year.

Here’s the recap of last year’s Cognizant Classic for a refresher on what happened:

Jacques Kruyswijk secures his maiden DP World Tour victory at the Magical Kenya Open!

It was a close race throughout the weekend at the Magical Kenya Open, but no one was going to catch Jacques Kruyswijk after his hot streak during the final round.

He made crucial birdies on the sixth, seventh, and tenth hole to take command of the tournament, and then sank a long range putt for another on the 16th to cap off a bogey free weekend and secure his first DP World Tour victory.

It took 139 starts but the 32 year old out of South Africa remained as determined as ever to find the winners circle and this proved to be the week that he got it done.

Congratulations to Jacques Kruyswijk!

The DP World Tour heads to South Africa this week for the South African Open Championship, an event that was won by Dean Burmester last year as part of a back-to-back run. This event is hosted by the fantastic Durban CC in Durban, South Africa.
