While Adrian Meronk had a lackluster 2024 season on LIV Golf, he reminded everyone just how talented he is this week in Riyadh. In round 1 he shot a bogey free 62 and found himself two clear of the pack.
He followed that up with a 66 in the second round and would maintain that two shot lead heading into the final round. Sebastian Munoz trailed him, but Tyrrell Hatton, Lucas Herbert, and Jon Rahm were all within striking distance.
He’d start off the final round with a birdie that helped calm the nerves. Adrian followed that with a string of pars before making another birdie on the 8th. Looked as if he was going to sail to a smooth victory, but the back 9 wasn’t as smooth. Bogeys on 10 and 11 coupled with Munoz’s birdies on 11 and 13 shrunk Meronk’s lead to just one.
Eventually he’d make a great birdie on 16, Munoz would bogey and Meronk finished off the impressive wire-to-wire win. Munoz would drop into a tie for second with Jon Rahm.
Congratulations to Adrian Meronk!
LIV Golf returns to The Grange Golf Club for it’s signature event down under. Adelaide has steadily provided viral moments and great competition as Ripper GC look to defend their team title as the hometown heroes. Here’s the recap of last year’s event:
Opening rounds of 66-64-65 gave Detry a comfortable five shot lead heading into the final round. It wasn’t fully decided at that point as momentarily it looked like Jordan Spieth, Michael Kim, or Daniel Berger might put a little pressure on him. That didn’t come to fruition as Detry made 5 birdies coming home to shoot another 65 and win by seven shots.
At one point Berger came within two shots of Detry, but it never truly looked to be in doubt during the final round. This is Detry’s first PGA Tour win and he’s also become the first Belgian born player to win on the PGA Tour!
Congratulations to Thomas Detry!
This week is the Genesis Open on the PGA Tour, but this time it will be hosted at Torrey Pines South Course due to the wildfires that have impacted Los Angeles. Hideki Matsuyama was last years winner and he’ll look to build on an already strong start to the 2025 season.
Here’s last year’s recap:
It looked as if the most likely scenario was a playoff between Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen an Haotong Li at the Qatar Masters this week, as they were tied an Li had a 15 footer for birdie on the last.
Remarkably he’d hole the putt and claim his fourth DP World Tour victory, no playoff needed! He started the final round with a two stroke lead, but a surge from Neergaard-Petersen saw Haotong Li eventually trail by one before regaining the lead on the last hole.
Haotong Li won in similar fashion at the 2022 BMW International Open having holed a clutch putt on the final hole for the win.
Congratulations to Haotong Li!
The DP World Tour doesn’t have an event this upcoming weekend, but the International Series will return with the Kenya Open the following week!
