PGA TOUR
Rory’s comeback at Quail and Gotterup wins the first Myrtle Beach Classic!

Rory McIlroy found himself one shot back of leader Xander Schauffele heading into Sunday at the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow. A course he loves, as he’d won there three times previously.

After 9 holes they were tied for the lead, but McIlroy’s two birdies to close out the front was the start of an 8 under through 8 stretch, while Xander struggled shooting even par over those 8 holes. Even with a double bogey on the last, Rory would win at Quail Hollow for the fourth time in his career, this time by five shots.

Congratulations to Rory!

In the PGA Tour’s opposite field event, the Myrtle Beach Classic, there was another runaway as Chris Gotterup put on a clinic and won by six shots over Alistair Docherty and Davis Thompson.

This was Chris’ first win in 27 career starts on the PGA Tour and it’s gained him entry into the PGA Championship!

Another fantastic story from the Myrtle Beach Classic was the 16 year old Blades Brown finishing T26. TUGR ranks him as the 2nd best junior golfer behind 15 year old Miles Russell who recently made the cut at a Korn Ferry event. Blades is the top 2026 junior golfer in the world.

Congratulations to Chris on his win and Blades on his fantastic debut!

What’s next on the PGA Tour?

No PGA Tour event this week, but this week is the PGA Championship at Valhalla! We’re going to be releasing a PGA Championship preview tomorrow - keep an eye out for that!
